Prof. Denise Defey, who originally graduated in Psychology and later followed diploma and master studies in Medical Psychology, Psychotherapy, Perinatal Psychology and Crisis Intervention, has had extensive practice in Maternity Hospitals, where she has conducted mental health care staff for several decades. As Associated Professor in the School of Medicine of the University of Uruguay and as an invited lecturer of Universities and healthcare centers in Europe and Latin America, she has trained in Perinatal Mental Health students and professionals in the fields of Obstetrics, Neonatology, Midwifery, Nursing, Social work and Psychology. PAHO, WHO, UNICEF, UNDP and the Ministries of Health and Social Affairs have also received her contributions.
Research interests:
Perinatal loss, high-risk pregnancies, post-partum depression, pregnancy and motherhood in marginalized populations, Medical Psychology, crisis intervention, psychological intervention in healthcare services.
